How Serious are NSAIDs Side Effects?NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) are a large class of drugs used to treat arthritis. NSAIDs help combat arthritis pain by interfering with the inflammatory process. The most prominent members of this group of drugs are aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen, all of which are available over the counter in most countries. Many would think that they are safe and no side-effects are to be had since they are so readily available.... But they would be wrong!
The use of non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) has commonly resulted in internal bleeding and stomach ulcers. Every year over 100,000 individuals are hospitalized and over 15,000 people die as a direct result of NSAID consumption. In America alone 50 people die every day as a result of medicating with common NSAIDs like Ibuprofen. Common side effects of NSAIDs:
The major problem...Dr. Walter Peterson, the professor emeritus of medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, stated, “consumers usually have no idea of the toxicity of OTC [over-the-counter] drugs”, he went on to say, “They believe that because they are OTC, they are safe” Click Here To Read the Full Story>> |

New Efforts to Decrease Painkiller Abuse
A team of Engineering students from Brigham Young University may be on the right track to curb the rising numbers of prescription drug abuse. Every year, BYU offers an engineering Capstone program, which allows companies to sponsor teams composed of students and give them an assignment to create a product which meets the company’s specific needs. This particular team was sponsored by Blackstone with the task of creating a device that will decrease the number of people dying from prescription drug abuse. This device, named Med Vault, is created in order to keep prescription medications locked up and only allow one person access at specified time periods. It is tamper and break resistant, and if a patient tries to tamper with it, it will be evident on the device. Click Here for More PainKiller Awareness Information>> |

This Month's Tip on Safe Ways to Reduce Arthritis Pain
Avoid Trans Fats - In an effort to give baked goods a longer shelf life, scientists took common vegetable oil and added hydrogen molecules in the right places. The result was that the liquid oil turned solid...and dangerous: Trans fats — found in some baked goods, fast-food items, processed snack foods, and most stick margarines are thought to be at least as damaging (and maybe even worse) as saturated fats in terms of inflammation, heart disease, and other health problems. Food producers are well aware of both the dangers of these ingredients and the growing public awareness of them, so many companies have now reformulated their products to remove all trans fats. Manufacturers are now required to list the amount of trans fats, right after the listing for saturated fats on the nutrition label. Choose only products that have 0 grams trans fats and do not contain any partially hydrogenated oils. Click Here To Read More>> |

Excess weight can cause unnecessary strain on your low back because it causes physical stress to the muscles and ligaments in your lower back. Excess weight carried in the abdominal region causes your pelvis to tilt forward which places additional stress on your lower back. Nearly one-third of people who are obese experience back pain and other pains in their musculoskeletal system. Obese women are at a high risk for developing low back pain because they typically carry their weight in the abdominal region. Excess weight can also cause sciatica and pinched nerves. Losing even a small amount of weight can significantly decrease back pain. Losing 10% of your body weight can make a dramatic lasting change in your back pain and your overall health.
