Hairstylists and Hand Problems

Being a hairstylist can be hard on your handsContinual use of the hands and wrists in clipping and snipping motions puts hairstylists’ joints in danger of injury from overuse. These repetitive movements can lead to incapacitating arthritis in the fingers and base of the thumb. Jonathan Krant, rheumatology head at New York-based Adirondack Health Systems, suggests devising ways to cushion the impact of these repetitive motions and decrease hand and wrist overuse by using automated clippers. Performing proper stretches and exercises may also help relieve some of the tension and build stronger muscles in the hands.
