A man who once was a gunfighter and lawman decides to find a way to die with dignity after he is told that he is dying from cancer. This 1976 western was the last of John Wayne’s films and was directed by Don Siegel. Co-stars include Lauren Bacall, Ron Howard, Harry Morgan, and James Stewart. The film received an Academy Award Nomination for Best Art Direction, a BAFTA Film AWARD nomination for Best Actress (Bacall) and a Golden Globe Nomination for Best Supporting Actor (Ron Howard). The film also won a National Board of Review Award as one of the Top Ten Films of 1976. The film grossed $13 million in America and was universally well-received by many critics and moviegoers. The film is hauntingly prophetic as John Wayne develops stomach cancer only 3 years later, resulting in his death.
