Red River

This 1948 western was directed and produced by Howard Hawks and starred John Wayne and Montgomery Clift. The movie centers around a fictional story of the first cattle drive from Texas to Kansas along the Chisholm Trail, and delves into the dramatic and building tension between the Texas rancher (Wayne) and his adopted adult son, Matthew (Clift). The two have contrasting views on the management of the cattle drive, as well as a somewhat controversial history. The movie is a tale about the relationship between a father and his son, and also about life, love, and loss. It did fairly well at the box office, but when released, it was not as big of a deal as historians find it today. In 2012, it won a Motion Picture Award from the Online Film and Television Association.
