Pinehurst Country Club
Established in the Sand Hills region in 1894, Pinehurst offers 8 spectacular courses and more holes than any other resort (9 courses). The most scenic course is said to be No. 1. However, all the courses have a tree-lined fairway and a multitude of bunkers. The first championship hosted at Pinehurst was the United North and South Amateur Championship in 1901. 6 years later, Pinehurst completed its most popular course, Course No. 2. No. 2 was designed by Donald Ross, who was credited for claiming it as “the fairest test of championship golf I have ever designed.” In the 1999 U.S. Open, Payne Stewart won the event with an amazing 15-foot putt at the 18th hole. a
