Keep on Trucking
Many truck drivers suffer from knee pain due to osteoarthritis. Because their job consists of sitting in a small, cramped space for hours on end, movement is severely restricted and stretching is difficult. This condition can cause knee pain even when they are just walking or climbing into their truck cab. In more serious cases, truckers may experience night pain, making sleep difficult. The Healthy Trucking Association of America says application of heat and use of a knee brace or walking support such as a cane can help to ease the problem. While driving it would be helpful to change the seat position every now and again in order to sit at different angles and allow blood to flow in different ways. Also, when stopped for a break, using this time to stretch and get the blood flowing to the lower extremities is a great way to minimize stiffness.
