Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an ancient eastern tradition that in the last century has become popular in the west. Acupuncture works by inserting small, hair-thin needles in the skin at specific points in order to stimulate other areas of the body. According to traditional Chinese medical theory, acupuncture points are located on meridians where “qi vital energy” is located and these meridians affect other parts of the body. You’re not going to find a scientific explanation on precisely or physiologically “how” acupuncture works. However, there have been reports that it actually eases the pain caused by lupus. There is not a whole lot of evidence for the validity of acupuncture but that is mostly because physicians are just now recognizing the benefits that are associated with it. Although it is not often clearly defined on how acupuncture needle sights relate to other parts of the body, recent studies demonstrate a neurophysiological relationship between these “points” and how these points have an effect on pain management.
