Peruvian Jungle Ultra (Peru, South America)
This 150-mile trek down from the Andes and through the Amazon Jungle is not for a runner who is faint of heart. It takes a strong mental tenacity, as well as a vigourous capacity for endurance, to compete in this marathon. Facing humidity levels that reach 100% there is literally no point in the race when you are not sweating profusely. Runners supply all their own food and supplies, and are encouraged to bring a hammock rather than planning to sleep on the ground. Runners experience lush jungle trails, tall towering trees, and various jungle wildlife throughout the course as you go from Cloud Forest and descend 10,500ft to the Amazon Jungle below. You will also encounter tribes indigenous to the Peruvian Rainforest, making it a cultural experience that you may not find from other Ultra Marathons.
