Avoid Additives
Fibromyalgia sufferers need to eat foods that are fresh and contain as little additives as possible. Many processed foods contain monosodium glutamate (MSG) and this can cause extra pain in some people with fibromyalgia. So it is best to avoid foods that contain this additive.
It is good to note that if you have fibromyalgia then you also have an increased sensitivity to pain. One study published in the journal, The Annals of Pharmacotherapy, reported that when MSG and aspartame were removed from their diet, the patients' fibromyalgia symptoms were almost eliminated. However, when MSG was introduced to their diet again, their symptoms returned.[8]
Other studies have shown that glutamate levels in the spinal fluid are connected with pain, especially in people with fibromyalgia.[9]
Salt can be viewed as another additive that can cause cardiovascular problems in any person, but too much salt can also cause inflammation in the joints and therefore it should be avoided as much as possible.
