White River National Forest (Colorado)
The White River National Forest is one of the nation’s most popular places to visit. You have plenty of opportunity to sight-see on horseback among the 2.3 million acres of the park. You can gaze at glorious mountain ranges and view Maroon Lake from 9,000-14,000 ft. The forest itself is full of attractions such as 12 ski-resorts and 8 wilderness areas to visit. Some of the various campgrounds include water and restrooms, as well as close access to the trails. For $25 a night you can use corrals at horse sites in most camping areas and each additional vehicle is only $5 (a great investment when you see the gorgeous the landscape). As the weather here varies, most people believe the best time to go is late Spring or early Fall.
