Rocky Raccoon 100 (Texas)
Huntsville, TX is home to this 100-mile race through tall pine trees along a dirt path, looping 5 times on the 20-mile mark. The race is held the first part of February, and if it’s raining, be prepared for LOTS of mud. Aid stations are available along the route. Rolling hills add more to the challenge, but the biggest obstacle you might face is the darkness. Runners are allowed 30 hours to complete the 5 loops and the race begins at 5am. The Rocky Raccoon 100 contains a minimal risk of injury to runners (besides exhaustion) but you might occasionally see an alligator in the area. The race draws over 500 participants a year and is considered one of the “easier” Ultramarathons in the United States.
