Why not run a marathon in the country in which the marathon was born? This race actually starts in the town of Marathon, along the Aegean Sea toward Athens. The finish line is at the Panathenaic Stadium which is where the first modern Olympic Games were held. That fact alone should be enough motivation to finish the course. This is the perfect marathon get-away for history buffs, but make sure you are prepared physically; the course is challenging and not necessarily for beginners. Take part in history and afterwards enjoy all of the beauty, food, attractions, and historical sites that Greece has to offer.
