Roy Rogers
Roy Rogers (Leonard Franklin Slye) was the “King of Cowboys” and he ruled the western movie scene in the ‘40s and ‘50s. This “Singing Cowboy” appeared in over 100 films and several western radio and television episodes, including The Roy Rogers Show, in which he appeared with his wife, Dale, his horse, Trigger, and his dog, Bullet. This family-friendly western show aired on television for 6 years and included an array of great actors such as Pat Brady and Andy Devine. Mr. Rogers also had a relatively successful music career with the band Sons of the Pioneers; they recorded over 30 songs with Decca Records, including the hit “Cool Water.” Roy Rogers led the box office during his prime and children, especially, loved his films. Some of his most enjoyed hits include: Apache Rose, Springtime in the Sierras, and Home in Oklahoma. He even produced a line of action figures in his likeness, as well as comics, adventure novels, and several other items. Other than Roy Rogers, Walt Disney is the only other man said to have more merchandise with his name on it.
