Passionflower Tea
Passionflower has been used for centuries to treat restlessness, indigestion, and even seizures. Today, its most common use is to treat anxiety, soothe an upset stomach, and improve sleep. Passionflower has been shown to relieve nervousness and therefore is given to those suffering from insomnia. Researchers believe that the herb helps boost the brain’s level of GABA (a chemical related to lowering neural activity in the brain). This helps keep the mind from racing while you’re trying to fall asleep. Passionflower has been used to treat anxiety, and shows less negative side effects than most prescription drugs used to treat anxiety disorders. The best way to take Passionflower is in the form of tea. 1 teaspoon of dried Passionflower leaves, soaked in hot water for 10-15 minutes, is all it takes to make a cup of Passionflower Tea. Feel free to add some lemon zest or honey. If you take certain medications like sedatives, MAOI’s, or blood thinners, you will want to avoid this tea or check with your doctor before drinking it.
