Great Wall Marathon (China)

Marathon along Great Wall in ChinaWhat was previously built to protect against raids from Mongolian hordes, is now attracting long-distance runners from all over the world. This course is a lot different than other marathons, as there are 5,164 stone steps, and extreme ascents and descents along this wonder of the world. In fact, most runners finish at about 50% longer than their normal time due to the constant uphill/downhill battle. The time limit is 10 hours (changed from 8 hours). The race begins in the Yin and Yang Square in Huangyaguan, and leads directly to the wall. Runners experience some of the most inhibited views of China’s lush and green landscape.
