Proper Exercise and Weight Management
For those who experience issues with weight, you may already be aware that excess weight means excess pressure on your bones and joints. For those who experience knee pain, it may be related to excess weight: “Studies show that simple activities like walking around the neighborhood or taking a fun, easy exercise class can reduce pain and help maintain (or attain) a healthy weight.” (Arthritis Foundation, 2012). Strengthening exercises can help you avoid excess stress to the joints by building muscle and reducing pressure (which also leads to a reduction in pain). The more weight you place on your joints, the more pressure is added to them, thereby increasing stress in that area. Some forms of exercise involve light aerobics and strength training. Aerobics is an easy way to exercise and it strengthens muscles and reduces weight, relieving pressure from the knee from two different angles. Additionally, aerobics can also improve stamina and energy, which will help you feel better and avoid feeling wiped out from your daily routine. It is also just as important to eat the right kinds of foods. Foods that are high in fat and sugar not only lead to issues with weight but can also lead to an increase of inflammation in certain areas of the body. It is important to speak with your doctor before engaging in any scheduled exercise routine as not all exercises are intended for everyone.
