Top Tips to Reduce Foot Pain after a Fracture
In addition to the RICE method mentioned on the previous page, there are some great natural ways that you can reduce the pain. If the fracture is minor, these top tips can help you get back to your daily activities sooner.
- Hot & Cold: Apply a heat pad and then a cold pack alternately for 10 minutes. Additionally, you could also use a bucket of hot water (bearable hot, not boiling!) and a bucket of cold water. Make sure to test the hot water before completely sticking your foot in. Place your foot in the hot water for 3 minutes and then in the cold for at least 10 seconds. Do this about 3 times, ending with the cold bath.
- Epsom Salt: Put 3 tablespoons of Epsom salt with warm water in a bowl large enough for your foot. Soak your foot for around 15 minutes.
- Clove Oil: This is good for easing joint pain. Gently massage some clove oil into the affected area. Do this several times a day. This will help boost blood circulation.
- Mustard Seeds: Grind some mustard seeds and put them in a large bowl of warm water. Soak your foot for 10 to 15 minutes.
Always listen to what your body is telling you, especially when you resume your day-to-day activities. Make sure to not push yourself to do anything that hurts and rest your foot if there is pain.
