Garnet, Montana
Located in Granite County, Montana, Garnet was first settled in the 1860s. It was appealing to all gold enthusiasts and miners and as many as 1,000 people once lived in Garnet. When the gold was depleted, many people abandoned the town in 1918. A fire in 1912 which destroyed half of the town (which was never rebuilt) also didn’t help out the town’s economy. Before all of this, Garnet had close to 13 saloons which are said to have made Garnet one of the hottest spots in the area. The town also had 3 hotels, several food and mercantile stores, and a barber shop. Today, nearly 16,000 visitors come to this ghost town every year. With over 24 buildings to view, it is known as Montana’s best-preserved ghost towns.
