Weminuche Wilderness - (*Near* Creede, CO)
In southwest Colorado, you can witness one of America’s most glorious views as you travel deep within the San Juan Mountains to the Weminuche Wilderness. Tour the Continental Divide over craggy terrain and glaciated peaks as you witness the geological phenomena that encompass the trails. This horseback ride may be for experienced horse riders, however, it soon turns easy as you mosey into the beautiful meadows below. Camp in the plains next to the Florida River, which is near the town of Durango (built in the late 1800’s), and fish in the lakes of the San Juan Mountains. Witness the remarkable landscape between Pigeon Peak and Turret Peak, and everything in between all the way to the Needle Mountains. Gorgeous Spruce and Fir trees stand tall along the West Virginia Creek, and there is also plenty of fishing (rainbow and cutthroat trout) along the shores of the river. To witness most of what the Weminuche Wilderness has to offer, a multi-day riding package is recommended. There is just too much to see, too many places to fish, and way too much trail to ride for just one day!
