Cincinnati

cincinnati-horseOne of Civil War General/former President Ulysses S. Grant’s favorite horses was Cincinnati. The horse was the offspring of Lexington, who at the time was the fastest horse in America. Cincinnati was given to Grant by a Civil War admirer, and due to the horse’s infamy, he was a “gift horse” in which Grant probably didn’t “look in the mouth.”  Grant was riding Cincinnati when he met with General Robert E. Lee in order to determine a surrender at Appomattox. This horse is famously depicted in the statue of the Ulysses S. Grant Memorial in Washington D.C.
