True Grit
The murder of her father sends young tomboy, Mattie Ross (Kim Darby) on a mission to seek revenge for those involved in his death. She gets the help she needs from the marshal, "Rooster" Cogburn (John Wayne). They are joined by a Texas Ranger, La Boeuf (Glen Campbell), who is looking for the same man (Jeff Corey) for a different murder in Texas. The supporting cast features Glen Campbell, Kim Darby, Robert Duvall, Dennis Hopper, and Strother Martin. On the set, both Wayne and the director, Henry Hathaway, had difficulties with Robert Duvall. Hathaway had constant shouting matches with his supporting actor, and there were a few times that Robert Duvall and John Wayne nearly resorted to a fist fight. John Wayne won a Golden Globe and the Academy Award for Best Actor. Upon accepting his Oscar, Wayne said, "Wow! If I'd known that, I'd have put that patch on 35 years earlier."
