Annie and Frank’s companionship started out with a little friendly competition. While on tour with his sharpshooting act, Frank challenged local marksman in the town, and Annie Oakley answered the challenge. At 15 years of age, she shocked Butler by outshooting him. She made such an impression that he instantly fell in love. The two quickly married, and when Frank’s regular partner fell ill, he asked Annie to join his sharpshooting act. They traveled the nation wowing audiences with their skills, and tugging America’s heart strings with their companionship. Frank loved poetry and would describe Annie in the most beautiful ways through his own poetry. The deadeye lovers were together for 50 years before Annie passed; Frank soon followed.
