Dress for Success
Obviously, you do not want to wear a thick cotton T-shirt during your marathon. You want to make sure your choice of gear is comfortable and does not irritate the skin. The idea is for the fabric to be breathable but not too loose. All types of runners wear different clothing that is specific to them. Do not forget to practice wearing this clothing long before you run the actual marathon. You don’t want to have any surprises or unfamiliarity when you start the race. As for what to wear, it often depends on the weather. If the temperature is 70 degrees, you will most likely want to wear a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. Some clothing lines are designed to wick away sweat from your body. Sometimes people experience chafing when they run in high temperatures. If you have this issue, you may want to consider wearing a pair of “Short Tights” since they are perfect for preventing chafing. Some runners, who experience intense amounts of chafing, lube the area between their thighs to help with this. If the temperature is around 45-50 degrees, sweatshirts or long-sleeve shirts are perfect. Make sure that you train in the same temperature that you expect the marathon to take place in. If you are used to running in warm temperatures, the cold can be shocking and throw you off of your game. Also, if it is a cold day, consider wearing a cap on your head in order to prevent heat from escaping. On chilly days, it is also a good idea to wear some comfortable, breathable gloves.
