“Amarillo by Morning”

Written by Terry Stafford and Paul Fraser and recorded in 1973, this rodeo tune has been covered by distinct country artists such as Chris LeDoux and George Strait. LeDoux performed the song on his 1975 Album Life as a Rodeo Man. His version had a warm and authentic “cattle-drive” feel to it. The 1983 George Strait version included more instrumentation, which many say, gives the song a well-rounded sound.  Despite the song being covered by various artists over the years, Strait’s version has the most commercial success and it reached #4 on the Billboard’s Country Radio Music Chart on February 12th, 1983.
