Have you ever noticed that runners are typically happy people? One reason is because running causes your brain to release endorphins which, for a simplistic explanation, are the chemicals in your brain that make you feel happy! Not only does running produce endorphins but scientists also believe they have discovered another component of a runner’s happiness, a hormone known as leptin. When you’re running leptin levels drop naturally, which allows your body to produce dopamine. Dopamine is a chemical in your brain that motivates you to take action towards your desires and goals and gives you an extra feeling of satisfaction when you achieve them! A “runner’s high” activates your body’s natural reward system and hijacks the brain in the best ways possible!
