Heart Health and Circulation

water running improves heart healthWater running is excellent cardio and you’ll receive the same amount of workout from your heart as you would bicycling or performing other types of low impact exercises. The heart rate stays steady, and although it won’t increase as much as when you run on land, you will still get a great workout and continue to promote healthy blood circulation. Water running lets the heart pump just as much oxygen into the blood as any other form of cross training, making it one of the easiest exercises to add to your routine. Another thing to consider is that your arms will feel the same amount of resistance as your legs when running in water. This is much different than land running where your arms are out in front of you; they don’t experience any resistance besides their own weight. Running in water may take the weight off your legs, but your arms still get the same resistance while under the water. This helps improve blood circulation evenly throughout the entire body, allowing it to be pumped to every extremity. Improved blood circulation means that oxygen reaches all parts of the body and increases your performance.
