Low Impact Fitness

water running is low impact exerciseMost of us know the benefits of exercising on land, whether it be biking, running, or jogging, they are all great ways to improve fitness. However, with land exercise, most workouts are high-impact based, which can put added stress on the muscles, bones, and joints. This can lead to muscle fatigue, soreness, fractures, and other injuries that often result from high-impact exercise. Water running and aerobics gives you all the benefits of those exercises but it is 2X easier on the body. This is why water running is a great form of exercise for those who are dealing with an injury or weight issues, as well as for the elderly. Studies have shown that those who are overweight were able to burn more calories on an underwater treadmill versus a normal treadmill. This is most likely due to the fact that they were able to exercise longer in the water than they were on land. Many people feel more comfortable with their bodies while exercising in water, compared to being seen by various strangers in a gym. The privacy gives people a chance to forget about others and focus on their water exercise.
