The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
Set in the Southwest during the Civil War, a poncho-clad stranger dubbed “Blondie” (Clint Eastwood), and a Mexican outlaw, Tuco (Eli Wallach), pair up as unlikely partners in order to ultimately reach the mysterious whereabouts of $200,000 worth of gold buried in the desert. Another character named “Angel Eyes” (Lee Van Cleef) has a bone to pick with Tuco and eventually Blondie. An arrangement of startling events, initially allow the viewer to realize that all of the men are out to get the money for themselves, which leads the three men to wander through the desert and eventually meet in a showdown at the end of the film.
FUN FACTS: Clint Eastwood wore the exact same poncho (without replacement or cleaning) for the following three “Man with No Name” movies.
-Eli Wallach would have been decapitated if he hadn’t kept his head down during a scene in which he is breaking his handcuffs by laying them on a train track and letting a moving train run over them. You can see the train-step nearly an inch or two above his head in the wide-shot version of the film.
