The Outlaw Josey Wales
After the Civil War ends, a soldier’s wife and son are slaughtered by pro-Union Militants and Josey Wales (Clint Eastwood) plans his revenge. A story about vengeance, truth, and running from one’s past; this movie has a recipe for cinematic greatness and was widely acclaimed during its release in the 70’s (a time when western movies were few and far between because they had decreased in popularity). Clint Eastwood received universally positive reviews for his leading role and even went on to say that the movie was "certainly one of the high points of my career... in the Western genre of filmmaking." The movie also received high praise from Native American viewers because of its non-stereotypical portrayal of Native Americans in the film. It was also the first of six films to be made by real-life couple, Eastwood and Sondra Locke.
Fun Facts: Matt Clark portrays Kelly, the bartender in Santa Rio who serves Josey Wales. In 1990, he plays Chester, the bartender in Back To The Future III, serving "Clint Eastwood" (Marty McFly played by Michael J. Fox).
-When Orson Welles made a guest appearance on The Merv Griffin Show in 1962 he stated, "When I saw that picture for the fourth time, I realized that it belongs with the great Westerns. You know, the great Westerns of Ford and Hawks and people like that."
