Swollen Feet
Swelling is another common problem for woman who is expecting. The body produces extra fluids during the pregnancy – accounting for about a quarter of the weight gain – and this will result in some level of swelling for most pregnant women. Swelling can occur in many different regions of the body, but the feet and ankles are especially prone due to the fact that they are lower to the ground.
While swelling can be a cause of significant pain and discomfort for a pregnant woman, it is a normal part of the process; generally, it is nothing that the expectant mother needs to worry about. Nevertheless, the pain and irritation can be quite significant and it can make life difficult in a variety of ways.
If you are suffering from swollen feet during pregnancy, then there are some things that you can do to reduce the pain and live a more comfortable life. Both sitting and standing for long periods of time can increase swelling. If you can, avoid standing for too long, and if you are sitting for a long time, just get up and walk around for a few minutes. Wearing comfortable shoes will also help to reduce the pressure on the swollen feet. Additionally, a good method to reduce the swelling can be to elevate the feet when you are lying down.
