Extra Protection
Sunscreen can be great for protecting against the damage that can be caused by the sun’s rays, but it does not provide enough protection on its own. Sunscreen only limits the impact of the UV rays but it cannot protect every part of your body. If it is possible, you are going to want to wear clothes and accessories that can protect against UV radiation.
If you are out in the sun and you can be comfortable with long sleeves and long pants, wear them. Clothes can provide the skin with a layer of protection that goes beyond sunscreen. Going for clothes that are dark, but made from a tight knit, lightweight material will provide the best option. You can even find clothes that have an SPF rating for their abilities to protect against UV radiation.
Wearing a hat will also provide a vital form of protection when you are in the sun. Your scalp can get sunburned and a hat is one of the few ways to protect against this. Something as simple as a baseball cap can protect the scalp, but a hat with a broad brim that goes all the way around is the best option. This will not only protect the scalp, but it will also provide shade for the face and ears.
For long days out in the sun, you also want to take steps to protect the eyes. The sun can contribute to the risk of cataracts and it can also damage the soft skin around the eyes. A good pair of sunglasses can be the answer to protecting against both of these issues.
