When Are the Sun’s Rays Most Intense?
It is important to protect against the dangers of UV radiation every day and whenever the sun is up. However, there are certain times of day and certain months of the year where the risk is the greatest. If you can avoid being out in the sun during the times when the rays are at their most intense, it can go a long way toward avoiding the problems that are associated with over-exposure to the sun.
For the continental United States, the UV radiation from the sun is at its most intense between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. You should try to avoid being out in the sun during this time or if you can, at least spend the majority of your time in the shade. The months with the heaviest UV radiation are March through October. The midday during this time of year is when you have the greatest risk of suffering damage from UV radiation.
