An In Depth Look At Tendoitis

Get Relief from Tendonitis painTendons work with the muscle during movement. They are strong bands of connective tissue that attach muscles to your bones. If a tendon develops inflammation from overuse or injury, the result can be tendonitis. This inflammation often occurs when the tendon is strained and small tears begin to form in the tendon. If this occurs, it will become painful, especially when the tendon is being used. The pain is often described as a dull ache, but can vary depending on the severity of the tear. If the affected area also has tenderness and swelling that is severely painful, it can keep a person from moving the tendon at all. There may also be stiffness and restricted mobility, muscle weakness, and the area may even feel warm when touched. If the sheath around the tendon happens to become inflamed (instead of the tendon), this condition is called Tenosynovitis. Surprisingly, it is possible to have tendonitis and tenosynovitis at the same time. Tendonitis can affect several different areas of the body; those who suffer from it may experience the pain in their wrist, thumb, knees, elbows, hips, shoulders, or the Achilles tendon. The pain that comes with tendonitis can be so severe that it becomes debilitating. This means that some activities that a person normally performs in their daily life may be so painful to do that they are unable to live life normally. Many are forced to stop doing the things they love to do. In the end, sufferers of tendonitis may end up making major lifestyle adjustments just to keep from experiencing the pain associated with tendonitis.

Emu Oil can ease pain from tendonitisThe Wonders of Emu Oil

The benefits and wonders of Emu Oil seems to be endless. It not only contains anti-inflammatory properties, but is used to treat the skin and surfaces below the skin. It has been used in medicinal practices for centuries and has also been used cosmetically to heal the surface of the skin. Emu oil mimics the fatty lipids that are found in the top layer of our skin, which helps it absorb into the skin faster than any other type of oil or cream. Emu Oil has been known to treat Arthritis, muscle aches, wounds, and repair damage to the skin. Studies from The Forsyth Institute in Boston, MA showed that Emu oil can reduce inflammation and can significantly reduce swelling within hours of application. Other studies demonstrated that Emu oil can actually stimulate skin-cell regeneration and help those who suffer from bedsores and other small wounds.

Ways to Reduce Hand & Knuckle Pain

There are many ways to manage the pain in your hands by using natural methods.

  • Simple massaging techniques can improve blood flow and reduce inflammation.
    • If you have sore or achy fingers and knuckles, ask someone to massage your fingers by gently rolling your fingers in between theirs. This small amount of pressure can reduce the pain after 5-10 minutes of massage.
    • Rubbing any part of the affected area of the hand, in a circular motion, will help reduce swelling and increase blood flow to the area.
    • Some people use massage balls that they can hold in their hand or one-handed massage products that can be used at any point of the day.
  • Hand Yoga is very beneficial for improving circulation and pain and it also relieves stiffness in the joints and fingers. It requires flexing the hand, wrist or fingers into different positions that loosen up the affected areas. Hand Yoga involves stretching and healing the hands in a way that might not be possible through ordinary massage, and it is easy to do these hand stretches anywhere (without the need of a yoga mat).
  • Another natural treatment method is Acupuncture. Acupuncture can be used to control pain in the hand and provide anti-inflammatory effects for the wrist, fingers, palm, and other parts of the hand. This ancient practice involves the insertion of hair-thin needles into the surface of the skin to treat pain. Acupuncture is a form of Chinese medicine that involves balancing the flow of energy in our bodies. By inserting these needles into specific points of the body, acupuncturists believe that the body can “re-balance” its energy. In some cases, western acupuncturists believe that when these points in the body are accessed, they stimulate certain nerves, muscles and connective tissue. It also increases your body’s natural painkillers and boosts the flow of blood. (Click Here to Read More)

Ways to Reduce Runner's Knee Pain

Running on concrete or asphalt can cause a hard impact, thereby stressing the structure of the body.  Maybe you should consider taking a break from your normal run, and seek out an unpaved walking path, field, beach, or trail.  Your knees might appreciate the break. These softer surfaces will absorb the impact and significantly reduce the strain on your joints. Many runners find that using low impact surfaces not only minimizes the shock but also strengthens the stabilizer muscles around the joints. Replacing even just one run a week will provide relief from Runner's knee.  (Click Here to Read More)

Ways to Reduce Back Pain

Getting more Vitamin D will help with your back pain.

Treatments with Vitamin D supplements have proven very effective at reducing back pain. Vitamin D is a vital factor for strong bones and joints and is highly valued for its regenerative effects for the body. Deficiencies in this nutrient have been directly linked to chronic pain. Researchers from the Mayo Clinic published a study in 2009 that revealed that patients who were deficient in Vitamin D needed at least twice the amount of strong narcotic painkillers to achieve relief than the patients who had adequate levels of Vitamin D. This essential vitamin is widely prevalent in many foods such as milk and fish. It is also produced by the body when exposed to UV rays of the sun, but one should limit sun exposure because of its damaging effects on the skin without proper protection. Since it is very difficult to obtain the necessary level of vitamin D on a daily basis from food sources, most doctors recommend consuming 2,000 IU of a vitamin D supplement daily. Taking a Vitamin D supplement may not completely cure your back pain, but many people have found beneficial relief from adding this supplement to their daily routine.

Other supplements that have proved helpful in relieving back pain are Glucosamine (500mgs, 3 times per day), 2 teaspoons per day of flaxseed oil, a Cal/Mag/Zinc supplement, and 2,000mg of Vitamin C daily.

The treatment of chronic back pain is not an exact science. There is no one-size-fits-all approach, but luckily there are many options and treatment methods available. Work with your doctor to customize the best plan of treatment for you and you will be well on your way to living a long and pain free life.  (Click Here to Read More)

Ways to Reduce Arthritis Pain

Diets high in Omega 6 fatty acids, which are found in animal products, margarines, and refined vegetable oils, like corn oil and safflower oil have been linked to Rheumatoid Arthritis. In fact, scientists have made a direct correlation between nearly every inflammatory disease and the high consumption of Omega 6 fatty acids in our diets.  In the early 20th century, a push was made for the vegetable oil industry.  Everyone began using some type of vegetable oil or margarine made from these oils.  What no one knew is that vegetable oils have very high amounts of Omega 6’s and that these fatty acids cause internal inflammation.  Human tissue acquires around 10% of our calories from highly unsaturated fats.  It absorbs as much as it possibly can.  Omega 6 fatty acids contain about 75%.  Therefore, a diet high in Omega 6 promotes a very inflammatory environment for the body.  Recent research revealed that the average person today consumes 10-25 times more Omega 6 fatty acids than our ancestors.  Studies reveal that Omega 6 and Omega 3 compete for the same conversion enzymes, so if you cannot help but consume high amounts of Omega 6s you should try to take a fish oil supplement to try to counterbalance the bad fatty acids in your system.  The more Omega 3’s in your system, the less Omega 6 your tissue can absorb.  (Click Here to Read More)
